William Purcell, 21, is living off his mum's benefits because he's too afraid to leave the house.

After a gang attack last year he "hit the drink", but therapy and Alcoholics Anonymous sessions have come to nothing, he says.

"I need to get my money sorted, get a job. But I just can't, I can't get it into my head to go and do it."
