Will EDF announce lower prices?
French energy firm Electricite de France (EDF) said it had increased its number of UK customers by 9% in 2006, despite spiralling energy bills.

It added 450,000 new accounts over the year, taking its UK customer bases to more than five million.

Europe's biggest power company also said that overall sales in the last three months of 2006 hit 58.9bn euros (39.4bn) - up by 15.4% on a year ago.

International performance beyond France was largely responsible, it said.

'Under review'

Like its rivals, EDF upped prices in the face of rising wholesale costs.

In July last year, its five million UK customers saw gas bills rise by 19%, while electricity bills rose by 9.1%.

This followed a hike of 14.7% for gas and 4.7% for electricity in March.

Last week, British Gas said its customers could expect a cut of about 17% in gas bills and 11% in electricity prices.

An EDF spokesman said its prices were "continually under review".
