Six people have been charged with conspiracy to defraud the Isle of Wight Festival by trying to sell fake tickets and wristbands.

A police investigation was launched after alleged counterfeit tickets were discovered at last year's event, which was headlined by the Rolling Stones.

The alleged fraud took place between 1 July 2001 and 31 July 2007.

Four people have been bailed to appear before magistrates on the Isle of Wight on Tuesday.

Festival sold out

The accused include three people from Southend-on-Sea, Essex, two from the Isle of Wight and one from west London.

This year's event, in June, has already sold out.

Some 50,000 tickets have been sold for the three-day show, which will be headlined by The Police, the Sex Pistols and Kaiser Chiefs.

Kate Nash, Hoosiers, The Enemy, Ian Brown and The Kooks are also on the bill between 13 and 15 June.
