Walliams book has laydee's touch

David Walliams signed a two-book deal with HarperCollins last year

Little Britain comedian David Walliams has written his first children's book, about a boy who wears a dress.

Walliams, famed for dressing as a "laydee" in his TV sketch show, will publish the book in October.

Publisher HarperCollins said the main character in The Boy in the Dress finds his life changes "dramatically" after he finds he enjoys wearing the dress.

It is a "light" and "positive" story, the spokeswoman added. Quentin Blake has created illustrations for the book.

"It is about how one ordinary boy can do something extraordinary and how it can change his life for the better," the spokeswoman said.

"It is a really lovely, touching story."

'Thrilled'

When the comedian's two-book deal with HarperCollins was announced in December, the company said his debut would be aimed at eight to 12-year olds.

Black and white illustrations by Quentin Blake, best known for his work with Roald Dahl, will be seen in the book.

Walliams said: "I am thrilled beyond measure to be working with the legendary Quentin Blake.

"I have adored his work since I was a child, and having him illustrate the book is a great honour."
