Vodka distillery plans revealed
Potatoes
The Board says it is good way to use waste potatoes
Plans have been published for a vodka distillery in the centre of Jersey.

People in the area are opposing plans for the plant, which would be about half the size of a football pitch.

Jersey's Potato Export Marketing Board has put forward plans for the distillery on Field 436 at La Rue de la Mare Ballam.

The proposals are for the vodka distillery, a visitor centre, restaurant and other facilities covering a total of 3,875 sq m.

The board says the project would be a good way to make money out of waste potatoes and has the potential of being a new and exciting industry for the island.

But residents in St John and St Lawrence are against the plans, claiming a distillery would bring more traffic to their neighbourhood and would be better suited to a built-up area.

Anyone interested in the plans is being invited to a presentation at Fort Regent at 1500 GMT on Monday.
