Negative result in swine flu test

Virus testing
Four people on the island are still waiting for their test results

A person suspected of having swine flu in Jersey has tested negative for the virus, the States has confirmed.

Four others are still waiting for the results of their tests.

Jersey's Department of Health has released no further details of the five people, and it is not known whether they are tourists or from the island.

The results were announced as the States of Guernsey also received negative results for their first two tests for the virus.

There are eight confirmed cases of the virus in the UK, including a 12-year-old girl from Paignton Community College in Devon.

Dr Rosemary Geller, Jersey's chief medical officer of health, said earlier the island would be "well prepared" to deal with a case of the virus.
