Valued exposure: Mr California

Austrian-born bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger

Austrian-born bodybuilder and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger points one hand out as he flexes his torso on Muscle Beach, Santa Monica, California, 1966.

Schwarzenegger was elected governor of California 8 October 2003, ousting the incumbent, Gray Davis, three years before his term was due to end. It is the first time in the state's history that a governor has been sacked mid-term.
