North Yorkshire's Chief Constable wants to see more officers on the beat across the county in an effort to reassure the public.
Della Cannings has said that visibility is a key aspect of her strategic policing plan which is being discussed on Monday by the county's police authority.
The county's draft plan will be sent to the Home Office and a final version will be published at the end of March.
The Chief Constable told BBC Radio York that "Bobbies on the beat" is the best way of keeping a lid on crime and reassuring the public.
She said: "It's about ensuring police officers and police staff are out in the public domain and are seen out in the public domain more than they've experienced in the past.
"Secondly, it's about reassurance. We are in a very low crime area but that doesn't stop people having a fear of crime."
