A family doctor has been chosen as the prospective Conservative parliamentary candidate for Bracknell, Berkshire. Constituents, including supporters of other parties, voted in an open US-style primary election on Saturday. Phillip Lee, who lives in Bisham, Berkshire, will replace MP Andrew Mackay as the Conservative candidate at the next election. Mr Mackay agreed to step down after 24 years in the role, following the MPs' expenses scandal in May. Dr Lee, a GP at the East Berkshire out of hours service, beat six other hopefuls in the poll held at the Blue Mountain Golf Centre in Binfield. He said: "I'm just over the moon really - honoured to have been selected. "There were some very worthy and high-profile people in the list." Mr Mackay won the seat at the last election with a majority of more than 12,000.
