Council highways chiefs have defended new traffic calming measures on two roads dubbed "rat-runs" after residents raised concerns about drivers "racing".
Slough Borough Council recently replaced road humps in Northern Road and Cumberland Avenue with chicanes because they were "ineffective".
The council said drivers would become less impatient once they were more familiar with the 20mph speed limits.
Most of those who replied to a survey wanted the chicanes, the council added.

Drivers need to realise that Northern Road and Cumberland Avenue are no longer race tracks
|
Councillor Dexter Smith said: "Northern Road and Cumberland Avenue is a residential area with a school nearby and is a regular rat run for hundreds of cars.
"Between 2000 and 2005, there were 40 accidents where people were injured along Northern Road and Cumberland Avenue, resulting in 52 casualties.
"It had to stop and we had to take action to slow the traffic down.
"Drivers may not like having to slow down but we considered it vital to slow the traffic in this area before someone got killed.
"Drivers need to realise that Northern Road and Cumberland Avenue are no longer race tracks and to protect the safety of residents and school children in the area, everyone needs to slow down and follow the new road regulations."
