New cases of swine flu reported

Two more people have been confirmed with swine flu in Cambridgeshire, health officials have said.

NHS Cambridgeshire said the new cases are unrelated to a woman from Huntingdon who was being treated for the virus last week.

The director of public health at the trust says the two people have mild symptoms and are being treated at home with anti-viral drugs.

The number of confirmed cases in the East of England now stands at 13.

Dr Liz Robin from NHS Cambridgeshire said: "(We) have investigated all three cases. In two of the cases no links have been found to existing cases nor have they travelled to countries affected by swine flu.

"This means that they are likely to be 'sporadic' cases of transmission of the infection in the community. In the third case, contacts are still being investigated.

"This does not represent widespread incidence in the community or sustained transmission that would lead to a change in the way we respond to swine flu."
