Group protest over recycling plan
Residents in one part of Derby have signed a petition to protest about proposals to build a waste recycling centre on their doorstep.

About 2,000 Spondon residents have put their names to the document, which was handed to officials at Derby City Council on Wednesday.

A council spokesperson said a plant needed to be built in the city as material is now recycled in Blackburn.

Residents say the plant would cause traffic chaos on Nottingham Road.

David Clarke, chairman of the Spondon Against Traffic Chaos group, said: "The proposed development would bring around 300 extra lorries into the area, which would be unbearable and may cause odour and vermin problems.

"The air quality in Spondon is already below standard and this centre would make it worse."
