Recycling work builds on success
A recycling scheme in Derby is to be extended after successfully meeting a major target.

About 7,000 households in Sinfin and parts of Sunnyhill have taken delivery of containers as part of the council's Rethink Rubbish Scheme.

Officials confirmed they had just exceeded a spring deadline for recycling 30% of household waste.

The scheme recycled 18,500 tonnes of rubbish last year - the equivalent of 2,000 double-decker buses.

Three different containers will hold glass, garden waste and newspapers.

Information on how to successfully recycle has also been provided.

When the scheme started in April 2003, the recycling rate was 12%.
