The victim was dropped off at hospital with a leg wound

A man in his 20s is recovering in hospital after being shot in the street in a Derby suburb.

The victim had been at a party at Harvey Road, Allenton, and it is thought he was shot in the front garden on Saturday morning.

He was dropped off at the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary with a wound to his leg, about half an hour later.

Officers said the man was in a serious but stable condition. Extra police patrols have been set up in the area.

Det Ch Insp Rachel Walker said the incident was being investigated by a team of detectives based in Derby, which was set up following several firearms incidents in the city around the Christmas period in 2007.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who was at the party or anyone who lives in the area who may have heard or seen anything which could help our investigation.

"We'd urge members of the local community to come forward to help us if they have any potential information about the incident," she said.
