Agency assesses 1m flood scheme
The Environment Agency is looking at spending nearly 1m to prevent flooding around the River Plym in Devon.

The project would involve building three screens to stop debris blocking the river in Plympton, Plymouth.

The current screens at Long Brook - which is a main tributary of the Plym - do not meet the current health and safety standards.

The Environment Agency is now looking at replacing the screens with modern ones at a cost of more than 900,000.

If completed they would protect local houses and businesses.

Members of the South West Regional Defence Committee will be asked to make a decision about the project at a meeting on Wednesday.
