Funding freeze for national park
A South West national park has said it will have to cut some of its services because of a funding freeze.

The cash restriction is being imposed on Exmoor National Park by the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

The cuts of about 340,000 could result in a reduction of bus subsidies and a review of visitor centres.

Defra said any service reductions were regrettable, but authorities had to live within their means.

The Exmoor Society described the cash freeze as "penny pinching" at a time when local authorities are expecting an increase in their budgets.

It intends to challenge the government about the cuts, but Defra says national parks have had an increase in funding of more than 50% since 2001.
