The city council is considering the move on the Hoe partly as a response to complaints from people living there.

The proposal is for 20mph zone covering Southside Street, Madeira Road, Hoe Road and the West Hoe area.

The works would cost a �150,000 and involve speed humps along Madeira Road, Grand Parade and Hoe Road.

'Driving erratically'

There would also be improved pedestrian crossing points.

It follows long-standing concerns from residents and the police about the roads being used as a circuit by 'boy racers'.

Councillor Dafydd Williams said: "We know that the biggest complaint from people living on the Hoe is the fact the roads are used by anti-social drivers who can cause a nuisance by having noisy stereos and use these roads incessantly by driving erratically."

An exhibition is taking place at the Hoe Park bowling pavilion on Monday.

If the scheme gets the go-ahead work would start early next year and be finished by the summer.
