An historic structure erected on a seaside pier to mark the Festival of Britain is to become a listed building.
Heritage Minister Andrew McIntosh has announced plans to preserve the character of the Neck Building at Boscombe Pier in Bournemouth, Dorset.
The structure, comprised of four kiosks at esplanade level, glazed shelters and toilets set under a floating canopy, dates back to the 1950s.
The preliminary decision was made following advice from English Heritage.
Period structure
Mr McIntosh said: "The Neck Building at Boscombe Pier is a rarity amongst municipal entertainment structures of the period.
"It was designed with real conviction and flare.
"The vivacity of this structure clearly illustrates the revitalization of the British Seaside Resort in the 1950s."
Since 1995 the government has publicly consulted on most plans to list post-war structures.
Residents and interest groups have until 24 October to lodge their views with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport on whether the building merits listed status.
