Ground reprieved for 100th year
Cricketers look set to be able to enjoy 100 years of their sport being played at a local ground despite plans to develop a new cycle track.

It had been planned to move cricket off Winton Recreation Ground at the end of this season and replace the existing track for the Bournemouth Arrows.

But talks were held between councillors and the Bournemouth Evening league.

It is now proposed the league use the ground for another year to mark 100 years of cricket being played there.

'Very important event'

The plan is to go before the council on 10 November.

If a bid for funding is successful, work on the cycle track will begin in autumn 2006.

The cricket teams will be accommodated at other council sites

Roger Brown, the council's head of leisure services, said: "After recent correspondence, and the discussion with the cricket league, we realised that marking the ground's 100th anniversary is a very important event for those who have played for many years at Winton recreation ground."
