Urgent appeal for foster carers
Council chiefs are appealing for foster carers to come forward for six children who urgently need a new home.

The boys, between eight and 13, could face a six-month wait for a family, due to the acute shortage of carers willing to look after older children.

While many people are keen to adopt babies or toddlers, foster teams in Dorset now want more people to undergo training to care for teenagers.

Andrea Orchard, from Dorset County Council, said fostering was rewarding.

"It is so important to be able to offer a child a sense of belonging.

"It can make such a difference to these children to have someone there for them, who can see them through to adulthood and give them a chance to be settled," she said.

Toni Coombs, children's services spokesman, added: "People from all walks of life get involved with fostering. Whether you are single or have a partner, whether you have a family, or whether you work or not, don't rule yourself out."
