Bridge work closes bird reserve

The Patch Bridge at Slimbridge
The old bridge had to be replaced after falling into disrepair

The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust closed its centre at Slimbridge in Gloucestershire, on Friday to allow the completion of bridge works.

The site was shut for two days in March when preparations began to replace a temporary bridge over the Sharpness Canal with a permanent one.

The original bridge was removed when it fell into disrepair.

The reserve was inaccessible during the work, as the bridge forms part of the main route. It reopened on Saturday.
