Elusive kingfisher young on show

A pair of kingfishers have hatched their young at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) at Slimbridge, Gloucestershire.

The duo took up residence directly opposite the centre's new kingfisher hide which was opened last month.

A WWT trust spokesman said it was a rare chance for people to see the elusive birds.

"Although they are common in the county you so seldom get a look - just a streak of blue as they pass," he said.

"The chicks are holed-up in a nest on the bank, it will take a while for their feathers and plumage to grow before they can fly."
