A man using a chainsaw has created what is believed to be the world's largest standing tree sculpture on the Isle of Wight. Sculptor Paul Sivell said the carvings on the 60ft (18.2m) tree detailed a timeline of the island's history. The design starts at the foot of the tree with the Romans, and the musical notes at the top represent Bestival, the island's summer festival. The tree is situated at the Robin Hill Country Park in Downend, near Arreton. The sculpture was commissioned as part of the country park's "Gardens in Bloom" fortnight. Park officials said the tree stands a foot (30cm) taller than the current "unofficial" tallest carving of a standing tree in Southern Chile.
