Vandals attack cricket ground
Grace Road cricket ground
The damage will cost thousands of pounds to repair
Vandals have caused thousands of pounds of damage to a county cricket club.

Pitch covers and groundsheets were slashed during the break-in to Leicestershire's Grace Road cricket ground on Sunday evening.

Graffiti was also written on the gates boasting of the incident.

Groundsmen say it was the worst case of vandalism in the club's 100-year history.

They are calling for a reassessment of security and say the pitch could now prove harder to play on.

Andy Ward, senior groundsman, said: "We have had a bad month with the weather but this really tops it off."

The club officials are asking anyone who may have seen the attack being carried out - or who have any other information - to contact the police.
