Disorder crackdown sees arrests
A police operation targeting bad behaviour in a Leicestershire market town has seen 30 people arrested in four months.

Officers in Ashby-de-la-Zouch launched Operation Banner in February to combat disorder in the town centre.

Over 30 fixed penalty fines have also been handed out, costing 80 each.

The scheme is part of the force's "Getting Personal with Criminals" campaign which focuses on targeting prolific and persistent offenders.

'Safe place'

It also aims to make better use of intelligence to increase detections and working with partners to reduce crime, Leicestershire police said.

Sgt John O'Brien said: "We will not tolerate any drink-related violence or anti-social behaviour of any kind.

"We continue to deploy staff where they are most needed, working in partnership with the local licensees and door staff, identifying potential problems early and nipping them in the bud.

"Operation Banner will continue to run until people get the message.

"We are committed to making Ashby a safe place to visit in the evenings, a place where people show respect for local residents and businesses."
