Rare flagstones taken by thieves

Fifteen rare flagstones have been stolen
Residents in a Leicestershire village have said they are horrified that thieves stole rare flagstones a garden of remembrance.

The garden in St John's Parish Church, Hugglescote near Coalville, is visited every year by hundreds of mourners whose relatives are buried there.

Leicestershire Police believe the 15 slabs, which were taken during the attack, may have been stolen to order.

They said that whoever took them knew exactly what they were taking.

A police spokesman said: "It's got to be somebody who knew that this stone was here.

"It's specialist stone - there are slabs of different widths, it is expensive stone that has been taken."

The Reverend Jeffrey Hall, the vicar at St John's, said: "It's very upsetting for people for whom it is a very special place.

"Not just for those whose relatives who died perhaps a year ago but for people coming here whose relatives died 10 or 20 years ago."
