Council role for youth offenders
Leicester City Council offices
Leicester City Council is set to approve the proposals
Young offenders in Leicester are set to carry out work for city council departments as part of community punishment tasks.

The council's Youth Offending Service (YOS) is calling on leaders to set up a range of programmes to help rehabilitate offenders.

The projects could include tree planting, clearing and laying paths and assisting older people at lunch clubs.

The city council's cabinet is set to approve the plans next Monday.

Councillor Mark Farmer said: "I'm sure the council can provide lots of opportunities for young people to make reparation for their offences.

"It is important that we do whatever we can to ensure young offenders take responsibility for their actions."
