Vulcan project near to collapse
The Vulcan under restoration
The project has already cost 4m but is on the verge of folding
A project to restore a vintage aircraft to flying condition is on the verge of collapse due to a funding crisis.

A team of 30 engineers have spent the past nine years restoring a Vulcan bomber but have been told their contracts will be ended this month.

The Vulcan Operating Company, based at Bruntingthorpe, Leics, has already spent more than 4m on the plane, the only example capable of flying again.

Organisers have said they need 250,000 over the next month to keep going.

The crisis has been blamed on a sharp rise in costs.

People from around the world have donated money to realise the project and recently a DVD has been produced to contribute to the fundraising effort.

The plane last flew from RAF Waddington near Lincoln more than a decade ago.

Vulcans were long-range bombers and were retired from active service in 1984.
