Park and ride hub plan revealed

A new hub for park and ride services could be built in Leicester city centre under plans revealed by the council.

The authority wants to install new bus shelters, upgrade pavements and information boards in St Nicholas Place and reopen a pedestrianised street.

The new facility would take buses from the existing park and ride at Meynell's Gorse, the proposed site at Enderby and any future park and ride services.

A consultation process has begun and if approved work could start this year.

The council said the car park in the centre of St Nicholas Place would remain, with traffic lights controlling the exits.

The pedestrianised Applegate road would also reopen primarily to allow bus traffic to exit St Nicholas Place.

There are also plans to install a taxi rank at the edge of the car park, and a two-way cycle route from Highcross Street, to St Nicholas Place, Applegate and through to Southgates.
