Safety at bus crash site examined
Bus after crash
Five pedestrians were killed in the crash
A meeting has examined plans to ban traffic from a road after five people were killed in a bus crash.

Paula and Richard Rhodes, from Notts, Joanna Warren, from Leicester and her sons Jacob, five, and four-month-old Leyton died at Ingoldmells, Lincs.

They were involved in the crash outside the Fantasy Island funfair in 2004.

Neil Cooper, Mrs Rhodes' father, met Highway bosses on Friday. Alan Meale, the MP for Mansfield MP, described the meeting as positive.

Ongoing campaign

A temporary pedestrian-only area has already been set up on the stretch of road where the bus struck the group of people.

The bus driver involved, Stephen Topasna, 51, formerly of Bridge Street Louth has been charged with causing their deaths.

Lincolnshire RoadCar, the bus company involved, has been fined 2,000 after the vehicle was found to have faulty brakes after the crash on 11 April 2004.

Skegness magistrates heard that the brake problem would have had only a minor effect and was not related to the collision.

Mr Cooper has campaigned relentlessly for safety improvements to Sea Lane.

A consultation on the future of the road is to go before councillors in November.
