A teenage girl who was allegedly the victim of an "honour killing" in 1999 may have been pregnant, her boyfriend has told a court. Halil Unal said he suspected Tulay Goren, who disappeared aged 15, might have been expecting a baby as the couple were using no contraception. But "she didn't say anything to me", Mr Unal admitted to the Old Bailey. Tulay is alleged to have been killed by her father - Mehmet Goren, 49, from north London - but he denies murder. Mr Goren, of Navestock Crescent, Woodford Green, is charged along with Tulay's uncles - Cuma Goren, 42, and Ali Goren, 55 - who are from Walthamstow, who also deny a charge of murder. They also deny conspiracy to murder Mr Unal. Tulay, whose body has never been found, is said to have been killed after she began the relationship with Mr Unal. She had left her family to live with him, but she changed her mind, moved back home and then disappeared. Mr Unal spoke in court from behind a screen via a Turkish interpreter. He was asked by Michael Turner QC, defending Tulay's father: "Did you have any idea Tulay thought she might be pregnant?" "I was thinking that she may be pregnant because she stayed with me for 26 days and we didn't take any precautions," Mr Unal replied. But she had not brought up the matter, he added. The trial continues.
