Drugs crackdown leads to arrests
An operation to crack down on drug dealers in Nottingham has been hailed a success by police.

Increased bike and foot patrols helped officers target those dealing drugs on the streets of the city.

The Dealer-a-Day operation led to 42 arrests, with 34 people being charged. A significant amount of Class A drugs was seized, say police.

More than 200 people were stopped and searched and a house suspected of being a crack house was temporarily shut.

Ch Insp Mark Holland said: "This operation has been taking place over the last month and the results speak for themselves.

'Dealers not welcome'

"It sends out a clear message to dealers or anyone thinking of dealing drugs that they will be caught and will face prosecution.

"Drug dealers lead people into a spiral of crime with many addicts committing crime to feed their habit."

Jon Collins, leader of Nottingham City Council, said: "Drug dealers are not welcome in Nottingham and we will not tolerate their damaging behaviour.

"People do not want dealers loitering on the corner of their street, nor do they want their children growing up thinking this is in any way the norm."
