City councillors discuss Bath Spa
Bath Spa Project
There is no planned opening date for the spa
Councillors have been meeting to discuss the Bath Spa project, which has been beset with difficulties.

At the Bath and North East Somerset Council meeting they were told panes of glass recently smashed by vandals would cost more than 100,000 to repair.

They also heard about two new boreholes which had to be dug to safeguard water supplies to the centre.

The scheme is already over-budget - the original cost was 19m, which has now gone up to 35m - and overdue.

Rooftop problems

There is still no planned opening date for the spa project - it was due to be open by 2002.

A report published on the council's website cites continuing problems with the pool painting.

Although the work has now been completed on the main pool, the rooftop pool is facing problems with "damage as a result of potential latent defects".

There are also continuing issues, the report says, with stainless steel stairs in the pool which cannot be installed because of "pool surround issues".

The project is a partnership between the council, the Millennium Commission and Thermae Development Company.
