Riders to celebrate new route map
Part of map cover
The map can be downloaded from the council website
A local MP and the chief executive of Somerset County Council will be among cyclists lending their support to the launch of a new map of cycle paths.

Three rides, graded from beginner to experienced, will set off from Taunton's Brewhouse Theatre on 1 April to celebrate its launch.

A council spokeswoman hoped the map would help people feel confident about cycling and navigating routes safely.

Jeremy Browne MP and Alan Jones are both expected to take part in the ride.

'Pub lunch'

The family route is a short ride along the canal, with a stop at Hestercombe House and gardens in Cheddon Fitzpaine, Taunton for refreshments.

The medium route covers 22 miles (35km) around north Taunton with a pub lunch stop and the longest route takes in 40 miles (64km), again with a pub lunch stop included.

People wishing to take part in the launch are invited to sign up for the ride by using the form on the council website.

The map, which is available in hard copy or can be downloaded, is produced by Cycle Somerset - an independent cycling group - and Somerset County Council.
