The council currently has about 760 allotment plots across 10 sites

Residents in a Surrey borough have been told their demand for the creation of more allotment plots has been approved.
The development of a long-term plan for the expansion and improvement of the allotment service was agreed by Epsom and Ewell Borough Council.
It is expected to lead to the creation of more allotment plots, a reduction in waiting times and an improvement in services provided to allotment holders.
There will also be a review of the way allotments are managed.
The council's leisure committee decided that the cost of renting an allotment, which is currently about 50p per sq m a week for an average sized plot, will need to rise to help fund the improvements planned.
The council said it would be consulting with allotment groups over the next few months, and more detailed proposals would be presented to the committee next year.
The council currently has about 760 plots across 10 sites. Seven sites are managed by the council and the remaining three are self-managed.
Currently, 168 people are on the waiting list despite 61 plots being allocated to new tenants.
