How the development will look

A 30m plan to transform part of Hartlepool marina has moved a step closer after land deal was struck between owners and developers.

Jomast Developments wants a hotel, restaurants, shops, offices and apartments on the eight-acre site.

The firm has now agreed a lease of the land from joint owners HMS Trincomalee Trust, Hartlepool Council and English Partnerships.

It will now seek planning permission for the proposals.

Hartlepool mayor Stuart Drummond said: "All of the interested parties have been working overtime to conclude this land deal and I'm delighted that agreement has been reached."

It is hoped the revamp will be ready for the visit to the town of the 2010 Tall Ships Race.
