Mini boost for town car factory
BMW is to invest 40m into its car-pressing plant in Swindon, which employs 1,500 people.

Swindon Pressings Ltd, in the Stratton St Margaret area of the town, will supply the main bodywork for the company's new Mini convertible car.

BMW says the investment plan will take place over the next three years and will see new automated machinery installed at the factory.

The plant beat off competition from several other sites for the work.

Bob Bowlam, managing director of the plant, said: "I'm delighted by the announcement, and very pleased on behalf of all the people that work in Swindon.

"The plant has now emerged from quite a long period of uncertainty over its future."

In January, Swindon Pressings made 330 people redundant because the volume of work at the plant was decreasing, it said.
