Awards for city's farmers' market
Farmers' market in Edinburgh
The farmers' market in Edinburgh has been running since 2001
Edinburgh's weekly farmers' market has been recognised as the UK leader in two major awards.

The Castle Terrace event came first in the National Farmers' Retail and Markets Association (FARMA) awards to find Britain's best farmers' market.

It also scooped regional and national awards in Country Life magazine and Strutt & Parker's joint search to find Britain's favourite farmers' market.

The market is run by Edinburgh City Centre Management Company (ECCM).

'Tremendous accolades'

Ian Broadfoot, city centre manager with organisers Edinburgh City Centre Management Company, said both awards represented a significant achievement for ECCM and Edinburgh, as 550 markets currently operate across the UK.

"All at ECCM are thrilled to receive these tremendous accolades. The awards set the seal on a great year for the market, during which our decision to move the event to a weekly operation in May 2005 has been vindicated.

"Our thanks go to everyone involved in this achievement, but most importantly our customers and stallholders, without whom the market would not have been recognised in this way."
