City set for 200 new hotel rooms

A 203-bed hotel has been unveiled as part of the �250m Union Square development in Aberdeen.

Jurys Inns will be the operator of the eight-storey hotel in Guild Street, which will have conference facilities, a restaurant, a bar and cafe.

Insufficient hotel accommodation cost Aberdeen �16m in lost tourism income in 2007, it was claimed earlier this year.

Union Square developers Hammerson said this made the hotel an important addition to the plans and Aberdeen.

The Union Square development is under construction next to Aberdeen Railway Station.

Went elsewhere

VisitScotland said earlier this year that feedback from conference organisers who made bids to come to Aberdeen showed they went elsewhere because of a lack of suitable hotels.

Sheila King, head of retail leasing for Hammerson, said: "Jurys Inns is an excellent addition to Union Square.

"Joining popular high street brands such as New Look and Arcadia and located adjacent to Aberdeen's central railway station, we are confident it will do well."

Niall Geoghegan, chief executive of Jurys Inns, said: "We are delighted to be able to announce the opening of Jurys Inns in Aberdeen, our third hotel in Scotland."
