Santas brave elements to ho ho go

Aberdeen Santa Run
The runners donned red suits, bobble hats and white beards for the event

About 500 people braved the elements in Aberdeen to take part in a 6km charity run while dressed as Santa Claus.

The first Aberdeen Santa Run was organised by Nairn-based WildHearts and the funds raised will be donated to poverty projects overseas.

The beachfront run started at Pittodrie Stadium at 1300 GMT on Sunday.

Mick Jackson, founder of WildHearts, said: "The response from the people of the north east to this has been fantastic."

He added: "The event saw a return to the original spirit of Christmas, with all money raised being used to provide micro-loans to help those living in poverty in the developing world.

"As the funds will be re-lent for years to come, the Aberdeen Santa Run will transform thousands of lives for many years ahead."
