Moray Council has been counting the cost of the recent floods, in which more than 100 homes were damaged.

A report by the council estimated the bill at between £1.8m and £2.7m.

Hundreds of people remain homeless after heavy rain earlier this month in Elgin, Fochabers, Rothes and the surrounding area.

The Scottish Government will meet the cost of some of the damage. The council is also asking for a capital grant of £2m for repair and replacement costs.

This was provided after previous floods in 1997 and 2002.

The estimate includes the initial response; road and pathway repairs; bridge repairs and replacement; and temporary accommodation for those forced to leave their homes.

In all 68 council houses and 33 private properties were damaged - most of them in Elgin.
