Expert advice bill hits 99,000
Stephen Wilds
Mr Wilds has been given a six month contract with the council
A social work adviser hired by Dumfries and Galloway Council will cost the authority 99,000 over six months.

Stephen Wilds was brought in by the council after a highly critical report by the Social Work Inspection Agency.

Councillors had previously expressed concern that the costs of tackling problems highlighted in the department were being kept under wraps.

The bill will be met from savings found elsewhere and a contingency fund to deal with the SWIA report.

"A six month contract has been agreed with the social work adviser and this will, with costs, total 99,000," confirmed a report to councillors.

Chief Executive Phil Jones had promised to bring back a report on the costs of hiring an expert, which he warned was "not cheap".
