A farmer has been elected president of the Farmers' Union of Wales (FUW) for the fifth successive year.

Gareth Vaughan, 66, who runs an 862-acre farm with his wife, daughter and son-in-law near Newtown, Powys, said he was delighted.

Vice-president Emyr Jones, who farms near Bala, Gwynedd, was also re-elected at a meeting of the union's grand council in Aberystwyth.

Mr Vaughan and Mr Jones were elected by delegates from 12 county branches.

Mr Vaughan said: "I'm delighted to be re-elected as president and look forward to driving forward the aims and ambitions of the FUW in the future."
