The victim, aged between 40 and 50 years, was involved in an accident on the Sea Aquarium ride at the Fantasy Island park near Skegness.

It is believed the man was operator of the boat-based attraction at the park which is currently in its eigth season.

The operator was rushed to hospital in Skegness but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Chief Inspector Paul Elliott of Lincolnshire police, said: "The incident occurred at about 1300 BST.

"The man is believed to be local and we are still trying to contact next of kin.

"It appears he was seen in the water by members of the security staff and then rushed to hospital where he was unfortunately declared dead at 1405 BST."

The Health and Safety Executive has been informed and an investigation launched into the accident.

The ride is expected to remain closed while checks are carried out.
