Thief found hanged in cell
Fletcher was sent to jail less than a week ago
An investigation has begun after a convicted prisoner was found hanging in his cell in Merseyside.
Karl Fletcher was found dead at Liverpool Prison on Thursday, less than a week after he had been jailed for theft. Fletcher, from Southport, was sentenced to eight months in jail on 23 August. Prison staff, who found the 32-year-old at around 0500 BST were unable to resuscitate him, a Prison Service spokeswoman said. The Prison Service will hold an internal inquiry, the spokeswoman confirmed. Fletcher had been jailed by magistrates at North Sefton.
