Warwickshire are top of the table after racing to a two-day win over Glamorgan but title rivals Somerset and Notts will be doing everything in their power to keep breathing down the Bears' necks with wins of their own over the next two days.

Somerset have built up a big lead over Leicestershire, while Notts have plenty of work to do against Hampshire, which all sets things up very nicely in the Division One title race.

Sussex and Yorkshire have also put themselves in good positions at the end of day two.

Meanwhile, Division Two leaders Durham are looking to secure their return to the top tier and have put themselves in pole position to do so thanks to five wickets for Brydon Carse and a century for Ben McKinney against Middlesex.

Also in Durham's favour is that second-place Kent face an uphill task against Derbyshire.

Noman Ali, one way or another, will wrap up the day's play at Old Trafford and Matt Taylor defends from the crease, which will please Gloucestershire and Kamran Dhariwal at the other end.

Taylor sees out the over and a marathon Day Two ends at 1910 BST - after a 1030 start.

Gloucestershire have given themselves a chance with a lead of 196 to date.

Taylor has 14 not out with Dhariwal on 44.

Some applause is also due for George Balderson, who has 4-23 and now has 52 wickets for the season.

The visitors were going well on 233-4 just before tea but the loss of James Sales (52) and Saif Zaib (110) revived the Pears, who restricted their first-innings lead to 89.

Paceman Harry Conway took 3-19 in an impressive new-ball spell to leave Worcestershire tottering again.

Much will depend tomorrow on Brett D'Oliveira and Adam Hose, 15 and eight not out respectively, as the home side look to clear a 34-run deficit and then try to set Northamptonshire a significant target in the fourth innings.

Mitch Stanley is back of a length and straight to Kamran Dhariwal, who tries to drop the ball away through the off side. No run.

Dhariwal follows another short, leg side ball and misses and a leg side strangle would be a disappointing end to a useful innings.

The players won't be returning to the pitch after the delay for bad light but Durham won't mind too much as they have worked themselves into a formidable position already.

Before that, Ben McKinney had helped himself to a century and will return tomorrow morning on 115 not out. The two home wickets to fall were Alex Lees for 37 and Will Rhodes for 34.

Earlier on, Middlesex were bowled out for 203 with Brydon Carse claiming five wickets and Ben Raine three.

Durham have their eyes firmly set on promotion.

Dom Bess (80*) was the mainstay in taking the hosts to 390 - and he subsequently took 3-36 this evening, including the scalp of Dean Elgar - who batted with grit, patience and skill on a turning tack for a 111-ball 34.

George Bell showed plenty of class of his own to end the day unbeaten on 42.

Zaman Akhter should have been out caught off a reverse sweep facing Kuldeep on 11 and he survives on 19.

Kuldeep bowled a marathon spell of 16 overs, 19 in all for the day - and the Indian wrist spinner has 3-60.

Glamorgan being bowled out for 69 and 65 in their innings defeat by Warwickshire is still attracting plenty of comment.
