Manchester United's player of the match Julia Zigiotti Olme, speaking to BBC One: "I'm so happy with the three points. Very important win for us but it was a hard game.

"We want to start the game quick and hope they are not prepared and that's what happened today, so very happy about that.

"We have grown confidence in how we play. It was new when Eva [Olid] came but we have grown a lot of confidence in training, in the games, we had two cup games a lot of players could play and we kept going."

  2. 'Man Utd showed a never say die attitude'published at 15:30 BST

Liverpool did put Man Utd under pressure at times. Phallon Tullis-Joyce made some brilliant saves. It was a brilliant defensive display and brilliant goal from Julia Zigiotti Olme in the first half.

I think it's an accumulation of what Eva Olid is trying to tell them, trying to implement that philosophy and culture. And also that togetherness, that grit and determination and that never say die attitude that they have been known for for so many years under Marc Skinner.

It's great for them to get a clean sheet under their belt at home and to go into the international break as well.

    FT: Manchester United 1-0 Liverpool

Manchester United's first game after their reformation in 2018 was a 1-0 win over Liverpool - and now their 250th match has gone the same way.

Three points take them level on points with Liverpool and makes it back-to-back WSL wins going into the international break.

The difference between the two teams is Manchester United had a chance and they took it.

  7. FULL-TIMEpublished at 15:21 BST

    Manchester United 1-0 Liverpool

That's it, Manchester United hold on to take the three points.

Julia Zigiotti Olme's goal after an error from Khiara Keating proves the difference.

Liverpool had their chances but weren't clinical enough when they came, although it must be said that Phallon Tullis-Joyce impressed in goal for United.

Khiara Keating takes the free-kick and Cornelia Kapocs is free 15 yards out.

However, she can't get enough power on the header and Phallon Tullis-Joyce saves and holds.

A minute of the three gone and the visitors haven't even got into the United half.

The home side will be delighted with this.

No other goalkeeper in the WSL looks to waste time as much as Tullis-Joyce. It’s infuriating to watch.

Important challenge from Dominique Janssen to stop Beata Olsson bursting into the penalty area.

United were short at the back for a moment after Maya le Tissier had gone galloping forward.

Marie-Therese Hobinger was rushed into that strike. It's good last-ditch defending from Maya le Tissier.

She rushes across and closes that window on how much time she has to shoot.

Manchester United substitute Simi Awujo is booked as the home side battle to cling onto their lead.

Lovely Liverpool move with a dummy from Marie-Therese Hobinger to let the ball run for Mao Itamura.

She gives it back to Hobinger with a backheel but the resulting shot is too close to Phallon Tullis-Joyce.

Nice link-up between the Liverpool subs, though.

  18. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 85 mins

    Manchester United 1-0 Liverpool

The moment I say United look the likelier to score, they drop off and invite pressure from Liverpool.

Alice Bergstrom puts yet another ball into the box but Phallon Tullis-Joyce is out to claim it.

That's it for Bergstrom, she's replaced by Mia Enderby.

Medina got a yellow card for Man Utd earlier but can't see anything about getting it. Why did she get it?

She was booked as she left the field when she was substituted.

We think it was for dissent.

Have Liverpool just run out of steam?

Manchester United have wrestled back control of this match and, at the moment, look likelier to score a second than concede an equaliser.
