Norwich City ended Sheffield United's unbeaten start to the Championship season with a 3-1 victory at Bramall Lane.

The Blades had yet to taste defeat in any competition ahead of kick-off, but goals from Anthony Musaba, Mohamed Toure and Mathias Kvistgaarden gave the Canaries a well-deserved first away league win of the season.

Patrick Bamford had marked his 33rd birthday with a goal to draw United level in the first half after Musaba had opened the scoring, but there was little else for Chris Wilder's side to celebrate as they slip to 14th.

Philippe Clement's Norwich had opened the new campaign with two defeats from their opening two matches, but climbed to 11th after their second win in their past three.

Despite their slow start to the season, the Canaries wasted no time in South Yorkshire and took an early lead through winger Musaba after just eight minutes.

The Dutchman, once of Sheffield Wednesday, left fly from the edge of the box with Blades stopper Michael Cooper unable to get a firm hand on the strike, which clipped the crossbar and bounced over the line.

Debutant Liam Kitching thought he'd grabbed the equaliser when he headed home a deep corner delivery from close range, but the effort was ruled out for a foul on Norwich keeper Vladan Kovacecic.

Birthday boy Bamford did bring United level with a powerful finish midway through the first period after Tyrese Campbell laid the ball off for him just outside the area.

Both sides created more chances to score in a lively opening 45, with the visitors regaining the lead on the stroke of half time when Mohamed Toure finished past Cooper one-on-one, moments after former Blade Andre Brooks had been denied.

Cooper saved well from the lively Musaba at the start of the second half, while substitute Kalvin Phillips blazed wide from outside the box at the other end as the game remained in the balance.

Another substitute, Mathias Kvistgaarden, helped his side avoid a nervy finish when he slotted home on the rebound to extend Norwich's lead after Hamza Choudhury had brilliantly blocked an effort from Brooks on the line.

Bamford ought to have pulled a goal back late on when Oliver Arblaster sent him through on goal, but the visiting defenders did just enough to put him off.

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield: "The concession of the goals [were] really poor. The three goals that we have conceded, I thought the second goal really changed the flow of the game.

"We didn't get the detail right on the first goal. They are good players, they are a good team, well stocked, competition in every place and they have been building. I always knew it was going to be a tough afternoon.

"I'm disappointed because for the majority of those challenges that we have had against them we have come out on top, but we didn't deserve to come out on top today.

"The second goal, for me, is a real turning point."

Norwich City boss Philippe Clement told BBC Radio Norfolk: "An important [win]. We weren't lucky the last couple of weeks, we had the West Brom and Stoke game, both we should have won if you see all the stats of the game and we get zero points out of that.

"It was important to keep our level and raise our level.

"What the boys did today against a good opponent, I'm proud about how the team played, how we could keep possession although they were pressing us, how we created chances in an away game and so many chances and good chances - and scored three really good goals."
