GCHQ may soon be able to monitor the calls, emails, texts and website visits of everyone in the UK under new legislation set to be announced.

Trefor Davies, chief technical officer of internet service provider (ISP) Timico said that ISPs do not keep any information at the moment but as they understand it, the new measures will mean they will have to keep details of emails and online searches.

He questioned the value of the information, explaining that it is very easy for people to circumvent monitoring through proxy servers which anonymise internet searches and encrypt emails.
