Money secured for academy plans

An academy schools project in Lincolnshire is set to go ahead after the county council secured �50m of government funding.

The Priory Federation of Academies in Lincoln has been awarded the cash for new buildings at two academies in Lincoln and various refurbishments.

County councillor Christine Talbot said the authority would contribute �10m towards primary provision.

Improvements to existing schools include new furniture and computers.

Huge project

Mrs Talbot said: "This is welcome news for children's services and education in Lincolnshire.

"This is believed to be the largest academy project in the country and will include the county's first all-through 3-18 year school at the Priory Witham Academy."

The two new builds will be at the Priory Witham Academy on the former Joseph Ruston Technology College site and at the Priory City Academy, the former City of Lincoln Community College site.

The Priory LSST Academy is also set to benefit from a new "sports barn" and the whole project has been awarded a carbon reduction grant as part of the funding.

It is not yet known when work will begin.
